We are proud to announce that Mountains in the Sky will be supporting Gotye on his National tour in July/August (please refer to the 'shows' page for details). The shows are already selling fast, some have sold out in fact, and more dates have been added to allow all those who need it, their fix of Gotye magic.
John has been busy playing with the New Buffalo live band on their two recent national tours but has managed to find some time for writing new MitS material. Expect to hear some works in progress as well as some older favourites.
Two remixes were also completed recently. One for Holly Throsby which has appeared on some tour only cd's, (a different version, with an electric guitar break, can be heard at www.myspace.com/mountainsinthesky1), and one for Japanese band COMA* which appears on their 'Ondee' release on Wowee Records.
After playing 30 shows in the last 4 months MitS are having a well earned break. Stuart is off to Milan to represent Australian Industrail Designers in an Australia Council event and John will be touring as part of the New Buffalo live band. They also hope to find some time to get back into the studio and complete a full length album.
One more show remains for them though, and that is the highly anticipated Meredith Golden Plains Festival on Sunday 11th of March.
MitS have some more shows coming up in the near future. They include supports for Edan, Cornelius, and Curse Ov Dialect, a RRRfm Birthday Party and a slot at Homebake. See the 'shows' page for details. We will also be playing at the new Gloden Plains Festival (same company and same venue as Meredith) in March 2007.
We have had a great time touring recently. Thanks to all who came to the launches and other shows. And thanks to the bands, especially Art of Fighting, Kid606, and Ratatat.
MitS also recently remixed a track for Architecture in Helsinki which appears on the AIH cd, 'We Died ,They Remixed'. Don't worry, they are not really dead.
'Accipio' is in stores now. To support the single Mountains in the Sky will be doing several shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Geelong, (see shows page for dates and supports).
I have to mention here that the Melbourne launch will include a very special performance of Robin Fox's Laser Show. If you haven't seen it before you must try and see it at some stage. Robin makes highly processed, beautiful, gritty and sublime electronica, which controls a laser that he aims directly at the crowd through smoke from a smoke machine. The result is mesmerizing, intense, subtle and well; impressive. He has performed the show several times to rave reviews and really should not be missed. As I said, if not at our show, at some time.
MitS will also be doing several support shows in Melbourne. We will supporting the Wolf & Cub, Ground Components and Laura album launches.
The new 'Accipio' cd will be released in Australia on August 28th 2006 by Trifekta Records. 'Accipio' is a single in five parts spanning 21 minutes. It features artwork by Cailan Burns, some voice by Holly Throsby, flute by Chloe Pullar and was mixed by Cornel Wilczek. The second movement, 'Stealing Through', will be released to radio on July 27th 2006.
Mountains in the Sky are pleased to announce that they will be taking a break from recording to support Low (U.S.A.) at the East Brunswick Club (Melbourne) on Wednesday the 7th of June.
Mountains In The Sky are very pleased to have our website finally up and running. Many thanks to Skye Klein, Brendan Webb, Cornel Wilczek and Allette Systems.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported us since our inception a little over a year ago. Especially Trifekta Records, JJJ, RRR, FBi, 2SER, 4ZZZ, 6RTR, and ThreeD radio. Also to the many bands and touring companies we have worked with and those of you who have joined the Mountains in the Sky mailing list, thanks.
Mountains In The Sky are currently attempting to spend more time in the studio but there is one more show in Adelaide on the horizon (see shows page). We will hopefully be in the studio for a few months before returning with some new material for the live show and for release.
